In 2015, at the Back to School Bash in Dubuque, Iowa, barber Courtney Holmes offered children a simple deal:
Read a book out loud while getting your haircut, and the haircut is free.
The idea helped families save money on back-to-school costs while giving kids a chance to practice reading, build confidence, and actually enjoy it.
Soon, children were lining up with books in their hands, ready to read for their trim.
