Then people started filling it with garbage again.
His name is Surendra Singh Choudhary, better known online as Bittu Tabahi.
For months, he has been pulling plastic, bottles and other waste from the Ajnar River in Madhya Pradesh, India.
He even spent his own money on tools and bins to try to keep the area clean.
At one point, he suffered health issues from working in the polluted water.
Still, he kept going.
But after sections of the river were cleaned, people began dumping rubbish back into them.
Bittu later posted videos showing the river becoming dirty again.
He had even placed a bin nearby so people had somewhere to put their waste.
But many still chose the river.
He cleaned it because he cared.
Watching people undo that work was the part that hurt most.
Sometimes cleaning up the mess is easier than changing the habits that created it.
